Eindhoven, Netherlands
Eindhoven is a municipality and a city located in the province of North Brabant in the south of the Netherlands – or Holland – I’ve heard native and foreigners use either/or. The city had 220,000 inhabitants (as of September 2013) and 265,000 if adjacent Veldhoven is included, making it the fifth-largest city of the Netherlands and the largest of North Brabant. For the geography freaks, North Brabant is a province of the Netherlands, located in the south of the country, bordered by Belgium’s Antwerp and Limburg provinces in the south, the Meuse River (Maas) in the north, Limburg in the east and Zeeland in the west. – Wikipedia
The Netherlands is a small country of 16 million inhabitants. The government of the country is subdivided in 3 layers: The national layer, the 12 provinces (regions) and the municipalities. There are also a few overseas territories. The capital Amsterdam and its surroundings has approximately 1 million inhabitants. The city of Eindhoven is the fifth largest city of the country with less than a quarter million inhabitants.
In the 2000s decade, Eindhoven emerged as the capital of Dutch industrial design. While most of Philips’ industries have moved out, the Philips Design Bureau is still in Eindhoven. For a city this big, there are a LOT of restaurants. Also: in 5 minutes you can walk the whole city.
I may have been a bit sarcastic somewhere in that last paragraph.. ;)
